Judge Maryann Frazier, Senior Entomology Extension Associate at Penn State University in Pennsylvania, records the scores of one of the mead entries at the 2006 Annual New Jersey State Honey Show. Mead entries were judged in three categories, i.e., Dry, Sweet and with Fruit Juice. Mead, or honey wine, is a fermented alcoholic drink made of honey, water and yeast. The history of mead quite possibly goes back more than 8,000 years.
