Recording the Scores
The judge's scores and comments were recorded on individual sheets for each entry in the honey show over the course of the over seven hours it took to judge the entries in the NJBA 2007 Annual Honey Show recently. Dr. Dewey M. Caron is show here filling out the sheet for an entry in Class 5 (Box sections, Round Sections and Cut Comb) of the Honey Comb and Spreads Division. In the foreground is a basswood, or box, section. Comb honey entries are judged on neatness and absence of liquid honey; absence of watery cappings, uncapped cells and pollen; cleanliness; uniformity of weight and total weight of the entry.
